PEL Installs BB06 Waste Glass Bottle Crusher in Prestigious Shelbourne Hotel.

PEL Waste Reduction Equipment installs BB06 glass bottle crusher in the prestigious Shelbourne Hotel on Dublin’s St Stephens Green.

The luxurious 5-star Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin, part of the Marriot Hotel Group offers 265 rooms including 19 suites, ten meeting rooms, a fitness club and spa. The hotel is located on the north side of St Stephens Green and as with most city centre hotels; space allocated to waste management and storage is at a premium. The Shelbourne produces approximately 10,000+ empty or waste glass bottles every week and the sorting and storing of this waste glass is an ongoing problem for the hotel. Historically these bottles were stored in crates or bins located in hotel yard and daily collections were required by the waste management company due to space restrictions.

A PEL BB06 ‘Mega Jaws’ waste glass bottle crusher was chosen and installed by the Shelbourne Hotel as the solution to manage their waste glass bottles. The BB06 ‘Mega Jaws’ bottle crusher or bottle breaker reduces waste glass bottle volume by a factor of 5:1 or 80%.  Specifically the machine reduced the volume of the 10,000+ waste glass bottles produced weekly by the hotel to 14 140L bins of glass per week and led to an overall reduction in the waste glass management costs for the hotel. Additional direct benefits included a reduction in labour costs associated with managing the waste glass and a reduction in the number of waste glass collections. An unforeseen benefit included a reduction in noise pollution associated with the waste glass collections i.e. noise of collection trucks entering and exiting the yard and ‘bottle clinking’ as bottles are tipped from the storage bins into the collection truck.
